Exact and Approximate Aggregation in Constraint Query Languages

چکیده
We investigate the problem of how to extend constraint query languages with aggregate operators. We deal with standard relational aggregation, and also with aggregates speciic to spatial data, such as volume. We study several approaches, including the addition of a new class of approximate aggregate operators which allow an error tolerance in the computation. We show how techniques based on VC-dimension can be used to give languages with approximation operators, but also show that these languages have a number of shortcomings. We then give a set of results showing that it is impossible to get constraint-based languages that admit deenable aggregation operators, both for exact operators and for approximate ones. These results are quite robust, in that they show that closure under aggregation is problematic even when the class of functions permitted in constraints is expanded. This motivates a diierent approach to the aggregation problem. We introduce a language FO + Poly + Sum, which permits standard discrete aggregation operators to be applied to the outputs of range-restricted constraint queries. We show that this language has a number of attractive closure and expressivity properties, and that it can compute volumes of linear-constraint databases. We also show, using techniques from machine learning, that a small extension of FO + Poly + Sum can probabilistically nd approximations of volumes for polynomial-constraint databases.

Secure Distributed Data Aggregation
We present a survey of the various families of approaches to secure aggregation in distributed networks such as sensor networks. In our survey, we focus on the important algorithmic features of each approach, and provide an overview of a family of secure aggregation protocols which use resilient distributed estimation to retrieve an approximate query result that is guaranteed to be resistant ag...
متن کاملFoundations of Aggregation Constraints
We introduce a new constraint domain, aggregation constraints , which is useful in database query languages, and in constraint logic programming languages that incorporate aggregate functions. We study the fundamental problem of checking if a conjunction of aggrega-tion constraints is solvable, and present undecidability results for many diierent classes of aggregation constraints. We describe ...

Deductive Database systems are designed based on a logical data model. Data (as opposed to Relational Databases Management System (RDBMS) in which data stored in tables) are saved as facts in a Deductive Database system. Datalog Educational System (DES) is a Deductive Database system that Datalog mode is the default mode in this system. It can extract data to use outer joins with three query la...
متن کاملAnalysis and design of approximate queries over XML documents using statistical techniques
In the last few years several repositories for storing XML documents and languages for querying XML data have been studied and implemented. All the query languages proposed so far allow to obtain exact answers, but when applied to large XML repositories or warehouses, such precise queries may require high response times. To overcome this problem, in traditional relational warehouses fast approx...
متن کاملApproximate Query Processing for Database Flexible Querying with Aggregates
Database flexible querying is an alternative to the classic one for users. The use of Formal Concepts Analysis (FCA) makes it possible to turn approximate answers that those turned over by a classic DataBase Management System (DBMS). Some applications do not need exact answers. However, database flexible querying can be expensive in response time. This time is more significant when the flexible...
